48-Year-Old WWE Star Should’ve Replaced Jey Uso In Title Match
Jey Uso will challenge CM Punk on Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1 for the World Heavyweight Title that Seth Rollins relinquished because of an injury at Crown Jewel.
Speaking on the recent episode of Busted Open, ex-WWE star Dolph Ziggler (aka Nic Nemeth) suggested that it should have been 48-year-old star AJ Styles instead of Jey Uso on the SNME match card against CM Punk.
Nemeth said, “No (we haven’t gotten AJ Styles versus Punk in the WWE). That’s one of the main reasons he was out there. Like one, he won the tag titles earlier. That’s great.”
“And normally I wouldn’t give a sh*t or I wouldn’t give a sh*t about even in putting him in the battle royal, but I go, man, Punk [and] AJ, that’s something you put two faces on the marquee and you go, “Okay, we’ll book the show look the rest of the show around that.” (From 12:21 to 12:41)
Jey Uso And CM Punk Do Not Need A Title Run
On the same podcast interview, Ziggler also stated that he thinks neither Jey Uso nor CM Punk should walk out of the match as the World Heavyweight Champion because neither of them needs a title run.
“I don’t think so. Isn’t that weird? I don’t think either one of those guys are gonna have it. I don’t know. Punk doesn’t need it. Jey doesn’t need it. But to have it, cool. It’s great. To freaking be world champion is one of the coolest damn things ever, no matter where you are or what you’ve done, period.”
“But to be so beloved by a crowd one way or another, to not need it is the greatest attribute in pro wrestling history. So, I don’t know that either. That’s why I really wanted somebody else. Only because they don’t need it. They’ve transcended being a world champ.” (5:50 onwards)
