WWE Star Drops Fresh Hint Nick Aldis Could Return To The Ring

WWE SmackDown General Manger Nick Aldis

Could Nick Aldis really get back in the ring?

In the closing minutes of the November 7 episode of SmackDown, Drew McIntyre was suspended by WWE.

Irate at missing out on the Undisputed WWE Championship days earlier at Saturday Night’s Main Event, McIntyre attacked referee Dan Engler and got into a screaming match with Nick Aldis.

Although it was initially reported that this suspension was to write McIntyre off television for a film project, a later update claimed this wasn’t the case. But while McIntyre has his sights on Cody Rhodes and WWE gold, new comments about Nick Aldis have got fans talking.

In a new post on social media, McIntyre shared a clip of his signing with SmackDown back in February, when Aldis said he planned to let him run wild, as you “don’t put a saddle on a mustang.” The Scottish star quoted those words while blasting the General Manager as someone who has become “just another clown in a suit.”

The phrasing from McIntyre — something often very deliberate — and his reference to Aldis protecting Rhodes have led some to wonder whether this is a hint that a match between the pair could be on the horizon.

“You don’t put a saddle on a mustang”

You’ve become just another clown in a suit with absolutely no bollocks.

You keep protecting ‘QB1’ I’ll keep kicking down every hurdle in my path.

When Did Nick Aldis Last Wrestle

The former World Champion hasn’t wrestled since competing at an independent event in October 2023, with his last match for a major promotion taking place in IMPACT three months earlier.

Despite his non-wrestling role on SmackDown, Aldis has repeatedly said he’s open to lacing up his boots again in the right circumstances.

During an interview in 2024, Nick Aldis confirmed that he’d like to wrestle again, but had told Triple H he simply wanted to contribute to the team. This conversation led to him becoming the SmackDown General Manager.

Aldis’ wife, Mickie James, has also hit back at claims she’s retired, commenting that she could wrestle several more matches if the right opportunities arrived. She added that while there are non-wrestling challenges she wants to explore, there’s nothing like wrestling in front of a live crowd.
