WWE Star Disappointed In John Cena
John Cena should have remained a heel, according to one WWE star.
On the eve of SummerSlam, John Cena dropped his heel character and returned to being a babyface. In a promo on SmackDown, he said he’d been pretending to be someone he’s not after being hung out to dry by others. Although they weren’t named, this was a reference to The Rock and Travis Scott, who were also involved.
At SummerSlam, Cena lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes.
Speaking on his Impaulsive podcast, Logan Paul said he was disappointed that Cena had returned to being a babyface. He said the star should have continued to “be himself,” urging him to “pick a lane.”
Cena and Paul teamed together at Money In The Bank, but Paul teamed with Drew McIntyre to face Cena and Cody Rhodes on the August 8 edition of SmackDown.
“I’m a little disappointed in Cena, personally like as a fan and as a guy who knows him. I saw the heel turn and I was like, ‘Alright, welcome to the bright side. You can just be yourself and people will accept you for that.’
But then the switch up back to trying to be a babyface makes me feel like he’s seeking outside validation and he’s being guided by the audience instead of himself. It feels like to me, we’re watching a midlife crisis happen live. I’m serious. I loved, loved John Cena, we had a tag and I got to work with him a little bit and see what he was really like.
I wish he would be more like me and just be himself. I’m serious. I think he needs to just like find yourself and stop trying to like please the crowd for your own personal validation. I just think you should’ve just picked a lane and stayed in it.
Like I said, who are you? Do you even know? Are you just doing it because the final boss says it or Triple H says it? Are you being puppeteered by the powers that be? Why don’t you just be yourself and be The GOAT John Cena? I saw that fade a little bit and I have to say, I’m not into it.”
WWE Planning To Use John Cena Against AEW
Meanwhile, it’s been reported that WWE is planning to counter AEW with a Premium Live Event featuring one of Cena’s final matches. According to the report, the as-yet-unconfirmed event will be headlined by John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar.
It’s believed that the event will take place on September 20, the same night as AEW All Out. Although WWE has countered AEW with NXT events and Saturday Night’s Main Event in July, this would mark the first time it has done so with a main roster PLE.
Brock Lesnar made his stunning return to WWE at SummerSlam, where he attacked John Cena as the show went off the air. Although Triple H quickly claimed that Lesnar’s comeback came at the behest of Cena, the veteran has denied asking to work with Lesnar.
Lesnar had been absent since SummerSlam 2023 after plans for a return at the 2024 Royal Rumble were scrapped. Those plans were dropped after the star was named in Janel Grant’s sex trafficking lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE.
