WWE Staff “Nervous” Over Company’s Planned Use Of AI
WWE’s planned use of AI is still giving staff more questions than answers.
On October 17, it was reported that WWE and Triple H are looking to integrate AI into their creative process. Furthermore, it has already taken steps in that direction.
As noted in the report, the company hired Cyrus Kowsari in September with the job title Senior Director of Creative Strategy. When he was introduced to staff by Triple H, The Game said that Kowarsi would lead the company’s transition into “AI-based storytelling” while integrating AI into creative services such as graphics and video.
In one test, the Writer AI software came up with a bizarre story involving AEW star Bobby Lashley being obsessed with Japanese culture.
Although a later report claimed that WWE isn’t planning on using AI for storyline and creative purposes, not everyone within the company is feeling entirely comfortable.
There’s A Growing Unease In WWE
Following up in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that despite assurances from management, there’s a very real nervousness among staff who feel they may end up being replaced.
One source noted that an executive joked that no one would lose their jobs apart from one person named (the target of the joke), but it still made others nervous.
Even before the introduction of AI, there had reportedly already been a growing lack of trust backstage after the cover-up around Seth Rollins’ fake injury.
“People are still worried about it because the trust level has been down since they lied to everyone on the first Rollins injury, so now nobody trusts anything about injuries and most believe TKO has no loyalty at all to anyone.”
In addition, even if immediate large-scale changes are on the way, there’s a worry that long-term, that could be a different story.
“One person noted that even if it just eliminates some entry-level positions, that would mean fewer new writers being trained.”
The original report noted that a different company that tested out AI dropped the idea because it couldn’t understand wrestling or wrestling storylines.
