WWE Sources Dismiss False Narrative Around MJF Deal
WWE sources don’t believe MJF will be going anywhere in 2024.
For well over a year the AEW World Champion has openly flirted with WWE and repeatedly stated that he’ll become a free agent in 2024. The star even claimed in the build-up to Full Gear that AEW boss Tony Khan was doing his best to try and keep him, commenting there are a lot of things he likes about WWE.
While it would only be logical for WWE to be interested in the star should he become a free agent, it seems that the “bidding war of 2024” is more fiction than fact.
According to a new report from Nick Hausman of Haus of Wrestling, WWE sources believe the star has already penned a new deal with AEW. The source notes there have been “zero” talks between the company and the AEW World Champion.
WWE believes this new deal lasts well into 2027, and dismissed MJF’s continued comments about free agency as a “false narrative” that is “completely a storyline in his head.”
Another source reiterated the belief that Friedman is under a long-term deal with AEW.
MJF Picks Up Controversial Win At AEW Full Gear
MJF made the most recent defence of his AEW World Title at Full Gear against Jay White. On the pre-show, the star teamed with Samoa Joe to retain the ROH World Tag Team Titles but left the arena in an ambulance after an attack by The Gunns.
However, he later drove the ambulance back to the Kia Forum and wrestled for 30 minutes against White to retain the gold. MJF’s win didn’t go down well with some fans, as they claimed it made White look ineffective, while the side story of an injured Adam Cole — who wasn’t cleared to wrestle on the pre-show — being cleared to compete in the main event despite being on crutches was illogical.
