MJF Reaches Incredible Milestone After Controversial AEW Full Gear Match

The AEW World Champion MJF continues to set a new standard following his controversial title defense at Full Gear.

At AEW Full Gear in Los Angeles, MJF had a very busy night due to having to wrestle twice.

During the Zero Hour pre-show, MJF teamed up with Samoa Joe to defend the ROH Tag Team Titles against The Gunns – Austin & Colten Gunn, who are part of the Bullet Club Gold stable. Joe got the win with the Coquina Clutch submission move. Since MJF & Joe won, that means MJF has to give Samoa Joe another shot at the AEW World Title.

After the match, Maxwell Jacob Friedman was attacked by The Gunns while MJF’s friend Adam Cole was outside on the floor because Cole had a broken left ankle that was surgically repaired. The Gunns used a steel chair to attack MJF’s left knee. The attack was so vicious that MJF needed to be put on a stretcher and taken away in an ambulance.

It appeared as though Adam Cole would replace MJF in the AEW World Title match against Jay White, but then MJF drove an ambulance back into the arena to be in the main event.

What Was So Historic About MJF’s Win At AEW Full Gear?

MJF would go on to wrestle for 30 minutes in the match with White as MJF sold the left knee injury throughout the match.

The final minutes of the match were controversial with a referee bump leading to weapons being brought into the match. MJF’s friend Adam Cole put the Dynamite Diamond Ring on the apron. White tried to use it to win, but MJF managed to get it back. MJF punched White with the ring on his hand and the referee recovered enough to count the pin.

What’s significant about the victory by Friedman is that one year ago on November 19 at Full Gear 2022, Max won the AEW World Championship from Jon Moxley. That means that MJF is the first man to hold the AEW World Title for 365 days, which is one full year.

Up next for MJF could be an AEW World Title match with Samoa Joe based on their agreement. AEW has yet to announce a date for that match.
