Title Change On Last WWE SmackDown Before Royal Rumble
There was a title change on the last episode of SmackDown before WWE’s Royal Rumble event.
It was a very busy Friday night for WWE leading into the Royal Rumble. While Smackdown was going on, WWE’s Executive Chairman Vince McMahon resigned from the company due to a lawsuit against him that claimed he sexually harassed, sexually assaulted and sex trafficked a former employee. While Vince plans to defend himself, he also knows it makes WWE look bad and that’s why he resigned.
As for the Smackdown show itself, the Miami crowd was treated to a Women’s Tag Team Title Match. That match saw Kayden Carter & Katana Chance defend their titles against former champions Asuka & Kairi Sane, who are known as the Kabuki Warriors in the Damage CTRL group.
While the champions put up a fight, they weren’t able to overcome the crafty challengers, who hit some incredible double-team moves in the match. In the end, Sane hit her Insane Elbow off the top rope and the Kabuki Warriors were the Women’s Tag Team Champions again.
The title reign of Carter & Chance ended at 39 days. As for Asuka & Sane, they are now two-time Women’s Tag Team Champions. Asuka has also held the titles with Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss.
Asuka & Kairi Sane Celebrate On WWE SmackDown
After the match, Asuka & Sane celebrated with their Damage CTRL teammates WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY and Dakota Kai. However, they weren’t as willing to celebrate with Bayley, who was there and didn’t seem to a hug or high five from her teammates.
It is yet another sign of potential issues between Bayley and the rest of the Damage CTRL. For now, Asuka & Sane are in a celebratory mood as Women’s Tag Team Champions, which means they can appear on all three brands any time they want.
