WWE Signs Top Free Agent

WWE Triple H

WWE has agreed terms with a former NJPW star.

According to a new report from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE sources have confirmed the signing of Aliopate Aloisio Leone — better known to fans as Tama Tonga.

After spending the best part of 14 years with New Japan, Tama Tonga announced after a huge win at Wrestle Kingdom in January that he would be leaving the company. The star explained that he wanted to continue his career in the United States in order to be closer to his wife and children.

Meltzer notes that Tonga was very aware of how much time his father Haku spent away from home, and decided it was time for a change.

Tonga had been in talks with WWE as far back as early 2023 but at the time decided to extend his contract with NJPW.

There is no word on when Tonga will make his debut.
