Seth Rollins defended the World Heavyweight Championship against LA Knight on the latest WWE RAW.

The Visionary cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Night 2 of SummerSlam after CM Punk defeated Gunther in the main event.

Punk won his first WWE world title in over eleven years. As he celebrated, Rollins appeared on crutches due to an injury he had suffered on Saturday Night’s Main Event XL against Knight.

However, it turned out to be a ruse. Rollins attacked Punk with the MITB briefcase before hitting a Stomp for the 1-2-3.

On the August 4 episode of RAW, Rollins was forced to defend his newly won title against an irate LA Knight.

While that’s how events unfolded, it was not the original plan.

WWE’s Plan For Seth Rollins Vs. LA Knight Title Defense Revealed

For the first time in history, SummerSlam was a two-night event, occurring on August 2 & 3, 2025.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer claimed that the Stamford promotion had initially decided that Seth Rollins would defend the title against LA Knight on Night 2 at SummerSlam.

By the way, you know that match with Seth and LA Knight? I don’t know if I told you this, but on the original card they were considering—there was like an asterisk, you know—they were considering Seth and LA Knight in a title match on the Sunday show, where, you know, he’d win the title on Saturday and defend it on Sunday. As it stands, those plans did not materialize, and Rollins defended his title against Knight on the August 4 WWE RAW episode.

But that match was also always scheduled to happen—with Seth defending against LA Knight this week. So, you know, that was planned at least several weeks beforehand, Meltzer concluded.

The match on RAW ended in a disqualification for Knight after CM Punk interfered and attacked Seth Rollins for his contrivance at SummerSlam.
