WWE Scrapped Plans For Released Star After CM Punk’s Return

CM Punk WWE Raw

A former WWE star has revealed that plans for them on the main roster were scrapped after CM Punk returned to the company.

Just weeks after CM Punk was fired by AEW for another backstage altercation, this time with Jack Perry, he made his shock return to WWE at Survivor Series.

This marked the end of a nine-year hiatus from the company after CM Punk walked out of WWE after growing tired of just about everything and everyone in 2014.

Many were delighted to see Punk back in WWE, but it seems his return had a knock-on effect on those already on the roster, as plans were forced to change.

CM Punk Return Forced Change In WWE

Speaking with Kevin for Mic Check with Mr. Anderson, Wolfgang of Gallus revealed he believes there were plans for his group to join up with Drew McIntyre on the WWE main roster, but CM Punk’s return caused the company to keep kicking those plans down the road:

We were ready for main roster, even when we got to NXT, it was good to get there and get involved but we were ready to go at the drop of a hat to main roster. And I know for a fact that we were scheduled to be there. We were like three weeks out, and then three weeks came and they said ‘it’s actually like three months’ and the phrase they used was the ‘can keeps getting kicked down the road’.

If you go look at the 2023 Survivor Series program for the main roster, or the 2024 Royal Rumble, there’s no one else in NXT in that, except for Gallus. And we’re right next to a full page spread of Drew McIntyre.

“So I think there was a plan for us to join Drew McIntyre at some point, and then CM Punk showed up and the can kept getting kicked down the road and they didn’t need us anymore. And I think they got stuck. ‘This is what we’re doing, we’ll get to it at some point’. They never even considered how else we’re going to do it.

Wolfgang and his partners, Mark and Joe Coffey, were released by WWE as part of wider cuts to the roster in May 2025.
