WWE Considering Roman Reigns Wrestling Twice At WrestleMania 39

There might be two Roman Reigns matches at WrestleMania 39, according to a new report.

For the fourth straight year, WWE will be having a two night WrestleMania for the 39th edition of their biggest event taking place on April 1 and 2, 2023 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

As the WWE Universal Champion for over 800 days and the WWE Champion since WrestleMania 38 in April, Reigns has been a dominant force. While his title victories haven’t always been clean, he has found ways (thanks to The Bloodline) to keep his titles whether it’s against Brock Lesnar, Drew McIntyre or even Logan Paul.

This time of year is when wrestling fans look ahead to WrestleMania season and in the case of Roman Reigns, WWE has a lot of options.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (available via subscription), Dave Meltzer wrote about how WWE is considering the possibility of Roman Reigns wrestling twice at WrestleMania by putting up one title on the Saturday show and the other title on the Sunday show.

“One of the things talked about internally in WWE is for Reigns to wrestle both nights at Mania, with the working ideas being Cody Rhodes and Dwayne Johnson. Nothing is definite and actually today the best bet is that it won’t take place like that. There is also talk of splitting up the titles so Raw has a world champion after Mania.”

As noted by Meltzer, just because it’s talked about internally doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. However, it’s also worth noting that since there are over three months to go, there is time for WWE to plan this out and decide what they want to do.

Regarding Cody Rhodes, it could be a case of him making his comeback from a torn triceps in the Royal Rumble match and winning it to earn the WWE or Universal Championship match at WrestleMania 39. A recent report on Cody noted that he looks as strong as ever and is ready to return to the ring soon.

It was noted by Meltzer last week that WWE was considering multiple possibilities regarding Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appearing at WrestleMania 39. In that case, it’s up to if The Rock wants to do it and is able to do it due to his busy schedule.

Meltzer made it clear that for now, it is just talk (some might call it “rumor or innuendo”) because there is plenty of time between now and WrestleMania 39.

“But anything until probably mid-January when plans have to be finalized because of the Rumble for this year is just talk, like the complete overreaction when I noted the Johnson winning the Rumble thing as the internal ‘pie in the sky’ idea which of course in a perfect world that’s what you would want to do, but that hardly means the perfect world scenario is what’s going to happen given Johnson has far bigger things on his plate like the XFL launch, movies, TV, whatever.”

In early 2023, Roman Reigns is also rumored to be having title defenses against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn prior to WrestleMania 39.
