Former WWE Referee Reveals How Demanding Vince McMahon Was As A Boss
A former WWE referee opened up about what it was like to work for Vince McMahon.
Jack Doan spent over two decades as a WWE referee, and as such, had firsthand experience working with former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Speaking in an interview with Sportskeeda’s UnSKripted, Doan opened up about having Vince McMahon as a boss, saying that he was very demanding but took care of his employees.
“[Vince was] very demanding, very intense, very intimidating. He’d expect you to miss birthdays and holidays, but he took care of you financially. You know, family emergencies, he got you home. He cared about you and your family, but he was very, ‘This is your job. This is what I expect out of you; your payoff is I’m going to make you financially secure while you’re here.’ … Not everybody is a Vince McMahon, you know? Not everybody can put that much energy into what you love and what you did.”
Continuing, Doan told a story to illustrate McMahon’s demanding work ethic, recounting the Chairman’s refusing to take off work even on Christmas Day.
“I’ll tell you a quick story. My old production manager … he got called on Christmas Day from Vince. This was probably 20 years ago, and [McMahon] said, ‘Steve, I’ve got this idea!’ … He said, ‘Vince, it’s Christmas. Nobody is working.’ And he goes, ‘I’m working!'”
Vince McMahon shockingly announced his retirement from WWE back in July amidst an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct and hush money payments. However, despite Triple H taking over and making major changes to the company, one WWE Hall of Famer believes McMahon may still be involved behind the scenes.
