One of the plans that WWE had for Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania involved the mysterious Uncle Howdy.
Following the tragic death of Bray Wyatt (Windham Rotunda) due to a heart attack at the age of 36, some new details have emerged about some of the plans WWE had for him.
When Bray Wyatt returned to WWE in October 2022 after more than a year away, he spoke from the heart about how he loved the WWE Universe and he thanked them for loving him. Soon after that, we were introduced to a new character.
Uncle Howdy was a character who wore a grey mask. There were promos from Uncle Howdy on the screen telling Wyatt to go back to what he was before, which was a tease for Wyatt to return to The Fiend character that he was in the past.
At the 2023 Royal Rumble, Bray Wyatt beat LA Knight in a Pitch Black Match. It was the last televised match that Wyatt had. After the match was over, Uncle Howdy jumped off a high object and put Knight through a table or at least sent him onto a crash pad nearby.
The Uncle Howdy character was portrayed by WWE superstar Bo Dallas, who is 33 years old. Bo worked for WWE from 2008 to 2021 before being brought at some point as Uncle Howdy although he was never shown on camera as Bo Dallas, nor was it mentioned that it was Bray’s brother in the role.
WWE Wanted To Do Bray Wyatt vs. Uncle Howdy at WrestleMania 39
At some point following Bray Wyatt’s return to WWE in October 2022 (the deal was likely struck a month or two before that), WWE had a plan for a WrestleMania 39 match between Bray and Howdy. That’s according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer, who noted that those plans changed.
“Taylor Rotunda (Bo Dallas) had returned to WWE as Uncle Howdy. At first, the idea was for Wyatt to build to a match with Howdy at WrestleMania, but that plan ended up changing and Howdy was not being pushed at that level and the character dropped. Alexa Bliss, who was associated with Wyatt years earlier in doing a female monster gimmick, was about to go back to the gimmick when he became ill. She later got pregnant so the plans never developed.”
There’s no word on what WWE might do with Bo Dallas moving forward. Obviously, the loss of his brother Bray Wyatt is a very difficult for that entire family.
