A WWE Hall of Famer has revealed that plans to launch a new group involved using a name of something from The Attitude Era.
The Judgment Day group originally started with Edge as the leader followed by Damian Priest joining him. However, according to WWE Hall of Famer Edge, a group from his past was brought when talking about the new stable.
After Priest joined Edge in April 2022 at WrestleMania 38, Rhea Ripley was the next addition to the group. Finn Balor joined in June 2022, the trio of Priest, Ripley & Balor beat up Edge to kick him out of the group that he formed only two months earlier.
In an interview with the Not Sam Wrestling podcast, former WWE superstar Edge, who is now known by his real name of Adam Copeland in AEW, revealed that there was a “New Brood” reference pitched to him.
“Well, you know, with the initial inception of the Judgement Day, I really I wanted it to be these underutilized talents that I thought could be far more than what they were being utilized for. Rhea Ripley is a star and Damian Priest is a star and Finn Balor’s a star.
So initially, it was brought to me like, ‘Hey, we want to kind of start a New Brood,’ or something that feels somewhat like that. I’m like, ‘Who would it be?’ I was like, ‘Ripley and Priest.’ ‘Well, we want it go be four.’ So, it’s like.. Balor! Okay, well, then it was like, ‘We want somebody really huge.’ I was like, okay.. all right.. and then I got a text two weeks later. ‘How about Balor?’ I’m like, ‘Yep! amazing idea.’ [Laughing]”
Who Was The Brood In WWE?
The Brood was a stable that was formed in the fall of 1998 with former WWE superstar Gangrel along with Edge and Christian, who is also in AEW as the TNT Champion Christian Cage. They were together for most of 1999 until it fell apart.
After the group fell apart, Gangrel ended up forming a group called the “New Brood” with the Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff Hardy).
Since it took place in the heavily watched Attitude Era, The Brood is considered a popular stable among fans who were watching at the time and it always will be.
