WWE Passed Over Iconic Tag Team As They Weren’t “Cosmetically Pleasing”
The Briscoes are one of the most decorated tag teams of all time but despite their in-ring success, the brothers were apparently not cut out for the world of WWE.
The Briscoes spent the majority of their careers in Ring of Honor where they held the ROH Tag Team Championship on thirteen occasions in addition to holding tag team gold in IMPACT Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Speaking on Talk is Jericho with Chris Jericho, Mark Briscoe explained that WWE passed on the tag team with John Laurinaitis noting they weren’t “cosmetically pleasing” enough for the company:
“Everybody was saying everybody really liked you. I really think they’re gonna bring you guys on. I guess it was a week or two after we had got home, we were just waiting to hear back because they said we will let you know. John Laurinaitis told me, ‘Yeah, we really liked your stuff but I think we’re going to pass for right now. Let us know if you guys want another try.’ That kind of rubbed me the wrong way.
“But then I guess when he talked to Jay, as he called Jay either right before he called me or called Jay right after he called me, he said, ‘Man, you know what he told me? He said that we’re not cosmetically pleasing enough.”
The Briscoes remained a part of Ring of Honor throughout their careers, sticking with the promotion after Tony Khan purchased it in 2022. The tag team icons had one of the best trilogies of matches with FTR over the course of that year before tragedy struck in early 2023.
Jay Briscoe was sadly killed in a car accident leaving his younger brother to carry on the legacy of Dem Boys, something he proudly does as both a part of ROH and AEW.
