WWE Planning To Open WrestleMania 41 With Title Matches

Gunther WWE World Champion

Title matches are expected to open each night of WWE WrestleMania 41.

The main event matches at WrestleMania 41 will see CM Punk, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins face off in a personal battle on Saturday, April 19th while Cody Rhodes will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against his wrestling mentor John Cena in the main event on Sunday, April 20th.

It is CM Punk’s first time main eventing a WrestleMania while the other four men have all been there before.

There are 13 matches currently advertised for WrestleMania 41 and while WWE has announced what matches are taking place on what night, the order of those matches isn’t known yet.

According to a report by WrestleVotes on Sportskeeda’s Backstage Pass podcast, the Men’s and Women’s World Title matches are currently slotted in as the opening matches on each night.

“As of this past Monday on Raw, the currently penciled-in opening matches for WrestleMania are Jey Uso versus Gunther for Saturday, and the Women’s Triple Threat between Rhea Ripley, IYO SKY, and Bianca Belair for Sunday. We do stress that neither of those are confirmed, as they could change on the day of.

We say that because, about six years ago now, at WrestleMania 35, WrestleVotes reported pretty late in the day that the opening match was AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton. And then, you know, 15 minutes before the show – it’s been documented that it happened that late – they moved it to Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins, so things can change. However, as of now, your opening matches are Jey Uso vs. Gunther and the Women’s Triple Threat.”

As noted above, plans could change and may change before WrestleMania 41 takes place.

How Does Jey Uso Feel About Not Main Eventing WWE WrestleMania 41?

When Jey Uso won the Royal Rumble, it shocked the world and WWE shouted repeatedly that he would main event WrestleMania 41. It’s something that the company shouts every time somebody wins a Royal Rumble. In reality, many Royal Rumble winners have not actually main evented WrestleMania over the last two decades.

The opening match certainly is not the main event, but Jey Uso spoke in a WWE Vlog about how he would like to be in the opening match.

“Saturday is my day. I’m on the first night, so I really hope – I’m being detailed here – but I really hope I’m on first. Obviously, I wanted the main event. We know that’s not gonna happen, which is ok with me.

I feel like if you’re on a WrestleMania card period, that’s something big, man. It took me almost ten years to get on the main card, so I’m humble with this, but I just wanna go first, night one, if I can. At least set the tone, for sure.”

It sounds like the “Yeet Man” Jey Uso isn’t too worried about his spot on the card.
