WWE NXT Star May Dethrone Sami Zayn On Main Roster Debut
Since becoming the United States Champion, Sami Zayn has been defending the belt week in and week out.
Zayn was moved to the SmackDown brand after WWE SummerSlam due to his feud with Karrion Kross ending at the premium live event.
He immediately confronted then-champion Solo Sikoa, following which they began a feud.
The 41-year-old defeated Sikoa on the August 29 episode of SmackDown to win the US title. Since then, he has defended it against John Cena, Rey Fenix, Carmelo Hayes, and NXT’s Je’Von Evans.
Elsewhere, on NXT, Oba Femi dropped the NXT Championship to Ricky Saints, sparking rumors about his bump to the main roster.
WWE personality Sam Roberts discussed the idea of Oba challenging Zayn as the surprise opponent during a recent episode of his NotSam Wrestling podcast.
I think a great way to debut Oba Femi would be to have him answer Sami Zayn’s United States Championship open challenge. I think he could be to Sami Zayn what Kevin Owens was to John Cena. [01:02:30 onwards]
While Roberts hopes that WWE pursues his version of the storyline, he mentioned that Shinsuke Nakamura had been lurking in the shadows and could be one of Zayn’s opponents before Oba.
Sami Zayn Sees A Positive Future With WWE
Before winning the United States title, Sami Zayn was featured in directionless storylines, with fans worrying about his future with the promotion.
Previously, during a chat with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, the Canadian superstar had revealed that he was happy in the Stamford-based company without talking much about his future.
I’m usually kind of private about that stuff. I don’t think I’m going anywhere. I’ve got a good thing going here, and I see it continuing for the foreseeable future.
