WWE Making Plans For Major Star’s Retirement

Triple H WWE

Another top WWE star looks set for a big send-off.

On December 13, John Cena will wrestle his last match at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C. 2025 has been dominated by Cena’s retirement run and surprising heel turn, but now attention has turned to his final opponents.

However, Cena isn’t the only veteran looking towards the end.

Ahead of a match with Cena at Crown Jewel, AJ Styles announced that he’ll retire in 2026. The former NJPW, TNA, and current WWE star admitted he’s growing increasingly aware of his advancing years, and he’s nervous about potentially embarrassing himself in the ring.

WWE Already Making Plans For AJ Styles

Although there’s no word on exactly when Styles will be retiring, WWE is reportedly already making plans for his goodbye. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that WWE “has a plan” for how to handle Styles’ exit.

“There is a plan in play for how to handle AJ Styles’ retirement in 2026…

It’s not fully locked in or anything, but the idea is, ‘We’re gonna do something.”

Meanwhile, one of Styles’ greatest rivals has admitted they’ll also be retiring sooner rather than later. In a new interview, Samoa Joe revealed that his current AEW deal will likely be his last as an active performer because he doesn’t want to outstay his welcome.

But in contrast to Styles and Cena, there’ll be no retirement tour; instead, Joe just wants to disappear off into the sunset.
