WWE Allegedly Used Major Star Due To Relationship With The Rock
WWE is no stranger to bringing in major celebrities to boost excitement and mainstream attention.
After a string of high-profile appearances alongside The Rock earlier this year, rapper Travis Scott quickly became one of WWE’s most talked-about celebrity guests. Similarly, Bad Bunny was the talk of the WWE town in 2023. But how did these two superstars with no wrestling background end up in WWE?
According to former WWE head writer Vince Russo, Scott and Bunny’s relationship with The Brahma Bull may have been the deciding factor behind their prominent TV spots.
Bad Bunny got multiple spots in WWE because of The Rock
Speaking on his Writing with Russo podcast, Vince Russo commented on WWE’s tradition of welcoming music and sports icons who already have influential relationships within the company. While talking about Scott’s WWE future, he highlighted that Scott and Bunny were only in WWE because of their connection with The Rock.
I’m thinking maybe he was boys with The Rock. I mean, bro, he’s over. He’s Bad Bunny over. That’s what they used Bad Bunny for. He definitely is over. Why? I have no idea. I’ve listened to the guy and like, okay. But he’s got a huge, huge, huge following. And I guarantee you, because he was so over, he had some connection with Rock. So that’s why they used him. Travis Scott first made headlines by accompanying The Final Boss at Elimination Chamber earlier this year, even helping The Rock and John Cena attack Cody Rhodes. The rapper’s WrestleMania cameo, where he tried interfering on Rock’s behalf only to be laid out by Cody, cemented his on-screen presence. While Bad Bunny’s popularity grew immensely in April 2023 when he entered into a rivalry with Damian Priest.
