Could WWE take a Premium Live Event to Mexico?

In recent years there’s been a major shift in WWE’s approach to Premium Live Events. While the company’s agreement with Saudi Arabia already ensures two events per year in the kingdom, it’s been going international like never before.

In 2023, Money in the Bank was held in London, England just months after Backlash landed in Puerto Rico. Not to forget Clash At The Castle in September 2022.

Following the incredible success of those events, WWE has branched out even further in 2024. Backlash was held in France, Elimination Chamber in Australia, and Bash In Berlin and Clash At The Castle will be hitting Germany and Scotland respectively in the coming months.

However, a top star has now called on the company to take a PLE to Mexico.

Legend Wants WWE PLE In Mexico

Speaking in a new interview with Bleacher Report, Rey Mysterio said he’s hoping the company takes a major show back to where his career began.

“I’m hoping that it happens in the next three years. I think my people deserve something as good as a PLE. I’m truly hoping. We have a huge stadium over there, Estadio Azteca, which I believe is being remodeled this year. I think the fans would go crazy.

Mexico has always been an incredible crowd for wrestling and what better than to pay it off with WWE coming over there and giving them something as special as a PLE?”

The timeline mentioned by the Lucha legend might also give a subtle hint about his plans for retirement. Back in December, it was reported that Rey Mysterio had signed a new contract with WWE that would see him wrestle into his 50s. At the time it was suggested the deal was for three years, seemingly tying in with his hopes to wrestle at a major event in Mexico before he hangs up his boots.
