WWE Legend Calls Out AEW For Disrespecting Him

One WWE Hall of Famer feels he’s been disrespected by AEW and claims that they’re bigger than Tony Khan’s company.

Powerhouse Hobbs is one-third of the AEW Trios Champions, and at WrestleDream, he joined Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata in viciously turning on Hangman Adam Page. Known for his power and strength, Hobbs has incorporated Mark Henry’s World’s Strongest Slam into his arsenal.

Perhaps because Hobbs was never known as the ‘World’s Strongest Man’, AEW are calling the move the Most Dangerous Slam. And Mark Henry isn’t happy.

Speaking on Busted Open, Henry explained that he feels disrespected by the company for removing the name he gave the move:

They called it the Most Dangerous Slam. They don’t call it the World’s Strongest Slam. They’re like, ‘F*** Mark Henry.’ F*** you, how about that? That’s to whose decision that is [to rename the slam]. You cannot disrespect me and expect me to kiss your ass about it. I’m not gonna do it. I’d rather be fired or kicked off the air before I let somebody feel like they all got power over me.

AEW Cannot Punish Mark Henry

Despite being retired from the ring, Henry went on to explain that he’d given specific instructions for the move to one WWE star who has also used it:

I talked to Otis. I said, ‘Yo, man, don’t use my finish as a high spot. If you’re going to use it, use it to put somebody in jeopardy for you to win or have them roll out, and you can’t get to him.

Henry then gave his thoughts on the notion that AEW is trying to punish him after leaving the company, but he says there’s nothing the company can do to punish him:

[Fans said that] AEW is mad that he [Henry] didn’t do what they wanted him to do, and they’re gonna punish him. Let me tell you this, AEW cannot punish me. There is nothing — I am bigger than AEW. There is nothing that they’ve done in the existence of their company that’s gonna make me feel like, ‘Oh, I need to bow down to that.

I respect the talents, but when a mandate comes that [says] ‘screw Mark Henry, we’re gonna do this,’ then that takes it out of the talent’s hands. You do what your boss tells you to do. You don’t control my mouth. You don’t control my heart, my spirit.

Since leaving AEW following a spell in the company where he did remarkably little, Henry has added himself to the constant criticism levelled against the company by many former WWE stars. Mark Henry is also currently a Legends deal with WWE.
