WWE Legend AJ Lee Still Feels Connected To Wrestling Fans

AJ Lee hasn’t stepped inside a WWE ring since the RAW after WrestleMania 31.

On April 3, 2015, the promotion announced that the then-Divas Champion had retired from in-ring competition due to a permanent injury.

Ever since, AJ has been on a different journey, becoming a New York Times bestselling author for her memoir, Crazy Is My Superpower, and serving as an executive producer on Aimee Comes First.

She has also co-written a comic book, Day of the Dead Girl, with Hollywood star Aimee Garcia.

Despite stepping away from wrestling more than a decade ago, the former champion claims she still has a close connection with her wrestling fans.

AJ Lee recently attended the annual San Diego Comic-Con, where she was asked about her missing fan interaction and the physicality of wrestling.

That’s a really interesting question because they are two totally different things. My fans are like pieces of my family. They have been…my mission in doing everything in the public sphere is to help make people feel less alone and help wonderful weirdos realize that underdogs are cool and we can be the stars of our own stories, and things that you are insecure about can be your greatest strengths in this world. That’s been my mission statement. The group of fans that have kept with me these past ten years have helped me feel less alone.

The physicality, I was so afraid to do ‘Heels.’ It was the first time I wrestled in eight years and my body bounced right back. It was like riding a bike. A really painful bike. The physicality is fun. [H/T Fightful]

AJ Lee previously starred in three episodes of Heels, playing Elle Dorado.

CM Punk Ends AJ Lee’s WWE Return Speculations

AJ Lee was massively popular among fans. So, naturally, fans were shocked when she announced her retirement in 2015.

Wrestling has always been a “never say never” business, with retired wrestlers sporadically appearing on shows. But not AJ Lee.

Amidst fans’ speculation, Lee’s husband and WWE superstar CM Punk ended speculations about her in-ring return during an appearance on TV Insider.

There are really two things me and my wife don’t do together. One is to work out and the other is to work together. It’s really the perfect relationship. She is my partner through and through. She has her things, and I have mine.

When the right thing comes along, I guarantee we will work together. Although I’m not looking over her shoulder while she is slaving away at her computer telling her to write a role for me for her many projects coming up. I’m sure it will happen if it fits. And it has to fit. It can’t be forced. It can’t be her just writing something for me or vice-versa or me trying to get her slotted into something because she is my wife.

She is a creative genius and extremely talented in her own right. So, anything we do end up doing together will be super fun, but it has to be the right fit.

Meanwhile, CM Punk has earned a title shot and will challenge Gunther at SummerSlam, scheduled for August 2.
