WWE Showing “Complete Lack Of Confidence In Modern Stars”

With WWE approaching Steve Austin and The Rock for WrestleMania appearances, Dave Meltzer says the company has a “lack of confidence” in its full-time stars.

The question of who will face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 is the hottest topic in WWE at the moment with the Royal Rumble on the horizon.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer suggested Cody Rhodes or Sami Zayn are in prime position to ace Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 and if WWE decides to bring back a name from the past such as Steve Austin or Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, it shows a lack of faith in their modern stars:

“This year I think people have an idea [of the main event challenger to Roman Reigns], it’s gonna be Cody, it’s gonna be Sami, or they’re gonna bring in an outsider. I think that everything that’s happened in the last week or so, I don’t think it’s Dwayne – I was told it wasn’t and all indications are it’s not.”

“As far as whoever else, Steve Austin or whoever, I just don’t think that’s the right move for the main event. It really would show a complete lack of confidence in modern stars if they have to go back to that.”

Meltzer then clarifies that he sees the situation with The Rock as slightly different as the match has been built to for years but with the approach to Steve Austin about headlining WrestleMania again, that could be seen as a “vote of no confidence” in their full-time stars:

“With Dwayne, it’s completely different, Dwayne’s a giant movie star and coming back and it’s [Roman’s] cousin and they’ve been building to it for years. But it looks like it’s not gonna happen.”

“But with Austin, obviously an inquiry was made to Austin so when I say they have no confidence that’s a vote of no confidence right there. Given how business is doing, they should not have no confidence in these guys because their business is doing great. So why do you have to not have confidence in your modern guys to headline WrestleMania.”

Roman Reigns was not the only proposed opponent for Stone Cold Steve Austin with reports suggesting Austin was offered another huge name on the show.
