A huge match has been pitched to Steve Austin with a new report claiming that a showdown with Roman Reigns is a possibility some day.

With WrestleMania 39 coming up very soon, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s name has been thrown around a lot about potentially wrestling in a match at that show. It was at WrestleMania 38 last year when Austin beat Kevin Owens in the main event of night one.

That match was 19 years after Austin’s last match at WrestleMania 19 in 2003. Even at 57 years old, the WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin reminded fans why is considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. There have also been rumors that WWE wants Austin to wrestle again while Stone Cold remains in great shape.

The other WrestleMania 38 main event saw Roman Reigns beat Brock Lesnar on night two to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Reigns has held the Universal Championship for well over 800 days and about nine months with the WWE Title as well.

It has been reported by Fightful Select today that WWE made a pitch internally for Steve Austin to have a match with Reigns. The report notes that “Austin’s camp was approached with the possibility of it happening, which was said to have been for ‘enormous’ money.”

There was more in the Fightful Select story including this: “In the Summer of 2022, Fightful reported that Austin was approached with a deal that wasn’t as appealing from a financial standpoint. Those that we spoke to in WWE claimed they hadn’t heard back on whether the more recent offer was accepted or not, and another source indicated that another ‘big name’ was offered in the months prior.”

As for The Rock, who was rumored to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, it appears as though he is not going to wrestle although that could always change with WrestleMania 39 coming in more than two months.

Some of the rumored matches at WrestleMania, as previously reported by WrestlingNews.co, include Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes (if The Rock is not wrestling) as well as Seth Rollins facing Drew McIntyre perhaps for the WWE Title if Roman’s two titles get split somehow. There is also the possibility that plans from months ago can change as we have seen in the past.

For now, the Austin-Reigns is just something that has been pitched. It’s unknown if it will happen or when it might happen.

Roman Reigns will be a big part of Raw’s 30th anniversary tonight in Philadelphia as The Bloodline hosts the “Trial of Sami Zayn” while Austin is not currently advertised for Raw.
