WWE Invasion Show Announced After TNA Attack
The invasion is back as WWE confirms a huge show that will pit NXT vs. TNA.
During NXT Homecoming, several TNA stars took to social media to express how unhappy they were with the current WWE partnership. One week later, they took action in the winner-take-all match between TNA World Champion Trick Williams and NXT Champion Oba Femi.
Things broke down after Williams slapped Mike Santana, who then retaliated, causing the referee to call off the match. Several TNA stars, including Matt Cardona, Cedric Alexander, and The IInspiration led the attack on NXT as a huge brawl broke out.
And now the invasion has been made official.
Invasion Returning To WWE
At No Mercy, it was announced that a special ‘Invasion’ show will take place on the October 7th edition of NXT. General Manager Ava confirmed that two Survivor Series-style tag team matches will take place, one for the men and one for the women. The competitors in those matches are yet to be confirmed.
Ava also revealed that a huge winner-take-all match will also take place, pitting the NXT Tag Team Champions DarkState against the TNA Tag Team Champions, The Hardys. This gives TNA a chance to win some NXT gold with the TNA World Championship and Knockouts Title now both held by WWE-contracted stars.
Long-time WWE fans will remember the original Invasion pay-per-view taking place in 2001 after Vince McMahon bought WCW. That show was headlined by a ten-man tag team match won by Team WCW/ECW after Stone Cold Steve Austin screwed over his own team to join up with The Alliance.
