WWE Interested In Signing Controversial NJPW Star

WWE Triple H

A new report suggests that WWE is trying to sign an established NJPW wrestler.

Fans of AEW will know Gabe Kidd as an associate of the Death Riders stable who is known for wrestling with a lot of intensity and cutting some expletive-filled promos.

While those expletive-filled promos wouldn’t be allowed in a PG environment like WWE, there is apparently a lot of interest in Gidd from WWE’s side.

On a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE is interested in signing the 28-year-old British star, who is a former IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion in New Japan.

“A lot of interest in Gabe Kidd in the United States. Gabe Kidd is another one that they (WWE) want, I’m sure AEW wants, I’m sure New Japan wants. I’ve been hearing a lot about them because Gabe Kidd’s contract probably is up at the end of the month – I don’t know that 100 percent – because most New Japan contracts are.”

With Kidd, it’s going to be real interesting with him because I think that he really loves New Japan and New Japan made him a star.” (H/T F4WOnline)

Whether Kidd wants to join WWE after his NJPW deal ends is unknown. AEW has had a history of signing former NJPW stars like Will Ospreay, Jay White, Kazuchika Okada, and Kenny Omega, among others.

WWE Also Wants To Sign AEW’s Powerhouse Hobbs

In a previous story also from Meltzer, he reported that WWE wants to sign AEW Trios Champion Powerhouse Hobbs, who is also a former TNT Champion in AEW.

Regarding Hobbs’ future, it’s unclear when his contract ends. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer teased that there was more to the Hobbs story.

“There’s more to the Hobbs thing than I wrote.”

Meltzer admitted he didn’t know when Hobbs’ AEW deal expires, but that people in WWE “really want him.”
