WWE Hall Of Famer Reveals Why She Turned Down Offers To Pose For Playboy
During an interview with Inside the Ropes, WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus revealed her decision to decline offers from Playboy during her initial run in WWE from 2000-2006.
In 2005, Stratus found herself in a feud with Christy Hemme, who was prominently featured as the Playboy Magazine cover girl at the time. However, despite the trend, the seven-time WWE Women’s Champion opted not to pursue involvement with Playboy. Stratus explained that she prioritised her work-rate in the ring over her sex appeal. She expressed her desire for her in-ring performance to take precedence over other factors, emphasising her focus on wrestling skill rather than external appearances.
This whole sexy thing is not really my thing, believe it or not. They asked me a number of times and I just declined a number of times.
Trish also reminisced about what she would say in some of her interviews back in her first WWE run, emphasising she was here to be one of the greatest female wrestlers of all time, and posing for Playboy Magazine would hinder her chances at achieving that goal.
The [being] sexy thing is not necessarily a natural thing to me, I’m very tomboy, like I look back at some of my interviews and they were like, ‘What’s your favourite? List your lingerie,’ and I’d be like, ‘I wear boxer shorts b*****s and I wear tank top how about that.’ The sexy thing was hard enough for me to pull off, I did that. But to be naked, is just like, ‘No, I’m good, thank you,’ and at the end of the day, I am here to be wrestler.
Trish Stratus would retire from WWE full-time in 2006 but has made numerous in-ring comebacks since then including as recently as last year in 2023.
