Trish Stratus Names The Favorite Match Of Her Career

Trish Stratus

Trish Stratus has a lot of legendary matches she can pick as a favorite, but there is one that stands out above the rest.

One of the biggest rivalries on WWE television this year was between the current NXT Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus. The two women teamed up with Lita to beat Damage CTRL’s Bayley, IYO SKY & Dakota Kai at WrestleMania.

Shortly after that, Stratus turned on Lynch after they lost a tag team match together. This led Stratus beating Lynch at Night of Champions in May thanks to an assist from Zoey Stark.

The Stratus-Lynch rivalry culminated in an incredible Steel Cage Match at WWE Payback last month. Lynch got the win in what was Trish’s first Steel Cage Match in her career. It is being regarded as one of the best WWE matches of the year and something both women should be proud of.

Trish Stratus names Mickie James match as her favorite

At WrestleMania 22 in 2006 in Chicago, Trish Stratus defended the WWE Women’s Title against Mickie James, who debuted on the main roster about six months earlier. In the build-up to the match, Mickie was a superfan of Trish who turned into a psycho who was obsessed with beating her idol. Even 17 years later, it’s a story that fans still talk about all the time because of how compelling it was.

Wrestlers often talk about how the stories matter so much, so that’s why Trish Stratus names that WrestleMania 22 match with James as the favorite of her career. This is what Trish Stratus said at a Q&A panel at the Big Texas Comic Con in a video posted by the Tales From The Collection: Autograph & Fan Mail.

“I would say Mickie James and I at WrestleMania 22. That was such a [audience claps]. We love that one, right? The storylines. And it’s just one of those things where storylines, especially for women, and just storylines in general in wrestling, they just don’t go on and on. They just kind of stop and start and forget — Mickie and I are really proud that we had that storyline. We used to say hashtag longest rivalry ever, but I think maybe me and Becky [Lynch] might have that now, actually.

“But yeah, loved working with her. Loved our crowd reaction at WrestleMania 22 [and] the fact that the crowd was wanting that so badly. Amazing. It was really fun working with her; she’s obviously amazing, so yeah, that’s the one.”

As for what’s next, Stratus has been off WWE TV since the Payback loss to Lynch and it’s unknown when she might return. If you follow Stratus on social media then you know she has a lot of appearances on weekends where she gets to meet fans, so that’s something worth checking out if she is in your area.
