WWE Hall Of Famer Dismisses Dave Meltzer’s Star Ratings As Meaningless

WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has added his voice to the ongoing debate over the significance of Dave Meltzer’s star rating system, asserting that it has “absolutely zero importance” in the world of professional wrestling.

For decades, Meltzer has been assigning star ratings to wrestling matches, influencing fan opinions and sparking discussions across the industry. While some wrestlers and fans respect his evaluations, others question his credibility due to his lack of in-ring experience.

During an episode of Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray made it clear that he doesn’t put any weight on Meltzer’s ratings, instead preferring the judgment of seasoned wrestlers.

“Absolutely zero importance when it comes to the five-star rating for a pro wrestling match. A star rating on a wrestling match would mean something to me if somebody like Ric Flair was giving it, or if somebody like Hulk Hogan was giving it. If somebody like Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat, or Ricky Morton, or Robert Gibson… I think you get the point.”

Ray emphasised that he values the opinions of legendary wrestlers and top earners far more than Meltzer’s reviews. He also took issue with the level of influence Meltzer’s ratings have on fan engagement.

“My issue is people putting so much stock into whether or not he thinks a match is good or not, people won’t watch a wrestling match if Meltzer says he gave a match two stars. I don’t encourage that. Watch the match on your own and determine if you like it or not.”

How Important Is The WWE Hall Of Fame To Bully Ray?

Bully Ray spoke about the importance of the prestigious WWE Hall of Famer to himself and said that he doesn’t put much stock into the honour as for him the enjoyment of the fans watching his matches was all he needed to feel acknowledged in the wrestling world. Bully Ray said that the only reason he accepted his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame was so that his tag partner D-Von Dudley’s children could see their father inducted.
