Ex-WWE Champion Blasted By AEW Star As Worst In-Ring Performer

A former WWE World Champion had one current AEW wrestler wondering if he was even trained to perform in a pro wrestling ring.

The Great Khali was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021, even though many fans aren’t going to remember him for having the best matches in company history.

For somebody who is over 7 feet tall and weighing about 350 pounds, The Great Khali was one of those guys who they say was “larger than life” in pro wrestling.

During his WWE career from 2006 to 2014, Khali had memorable feuds with top WWE stars like The Undertaker, John Cena, Batista, and numerous others in the first two years in a heel role. As the years went on, Khali was more of a “Punjabi Playboy” comedy character that the fans loved and WWE loved to book in silly storylines because a man from India had trouble speaking English properly.

While speaking on his Marking Out podcast, former WWE United States Champion and current AEW performer MVP spoke about his frustrations of working with Khali.

“That chop to the head that he used to give. In our business, we have the term a ‘work.’ There was no work to that big thick acromegaly bone to the head. He would literally drop that big ass 20-pound soup bone on your head. I’m pretty sure that I got at least one minor concussion from one of those.”

MVP spoke about another move that Khali loved to do.

“His other finish—the two-handed powerbomb drop. Oh. Oh, brother. I’m like, yo, my man, don’t somebody teach this [guy] to work?”

WWE Legend The Great Khali Was A Good Guy Behind The Scenes

Even though MVP was frustrated with Khali in the ring, he went on to praise Khali as a person.

“He’s one of the worst people I’ve ever been in the ring with as a wrestler. But behind the scenes? What a funny guy. I actually enjoyed his company. I used to mess with him all the time. Rib him mercilessly.”

Just to make sure the people of India weren’t mad at him too much, MVP went on to praise former WWE Champion, “The Modern Day Maharaja” Jinder Mahal, who is of Indian heritage, and grew up in Canada.

“Now I know there’s a billion people in India that hate me. But that’s okay—I don’t care. Because I will tell you the Modern-Day Maharaja, that [guy] is dope. He’s raw. I was very happy to see him become WWE Champion. But The Great Khali? Trash.”

For his part, The Great Khali has admitted in the past that he wasn’t great in the WWE ring, so it’s not like MVP was saying something that Khali wasn’t aware of.
