WWE Executive Denies John Cena Buried Talent

John Cena

John Cena never deliberately buried his rivals, according to one backstage figure.

Throughout his retirement tour, John Cena has become the beloved uncle of WWE, but that wasn’t always the case.

Although he rose to prominence on a wave of fan support, it wasn’t long until those same fans grew tired of his dominance over the main event scene. There were also claims that he ensured he always won out over younger talent during this period, such as the Nexus, Rusev, Bray Wyatt, and others.

However, one WWE executive believes that this simply wasn’t the case.

Speaking on his Something To Wrestle podcast, Bruce Prichard hit back at claims that Cena had buried talent earlier in his career.

“Never experienced it. Never experienced and I would think that I would have been at least during the time I was there,”

Expanding further, Prichard said that rather than keeping people down, Cena had worked harder than most to try and elevate others.

“I’ve never experienced John ever coming and trying to hold anybody down to the contrary. I’ve seen John go and go, God, what if we did something with him? What if we did something with her?… coming up with plenty of ideas for other people to try to elevate.”

John Cena Defended Dominant Run

During an interview back in January, John Cena defended his “Super Cena” run, where he rarely lost. He explained that in his view, as a main event star, he needed to win the vast majority of his matches in order to make his losses mean something for his opponents.

As his retirement closes in, Cena has repeatedly discussed his desire to help others, with the tournament to decide his last rival used to do just that. There’s also the small matter of his final opponent getting “the rub” of being the last person to share the ring with the WWE legend.

But given his importance to WWE, some have suggested that Cena should go against tradition and win his final match.
