WWE Elimination Chamber Main Event “Confirmed As Can Be”
A new report has suggested that the main event for February’s Elimination Chamber is all but set following the shocking events at the WWE Royal Rumble.
The 2023 Royal Rumble saw Cody Rhodes make his grand return to WWE screens after seven months out of action due to injury. The American Nightmare entered the men’s Rumble match at number 30 and became the fifth star in history to win the match from that position. That now puts Rhodes in the driver’s seat for a shot at Roman Reigns and the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39.
Reigns retained his championship at the Royal Rumble when he defeated Kevin Owens in the main event. Not content with winning the match, Reigns gave the order for The Bloodline to viciously assault Owens after the match. The Tribal Chief then ordered Sami Zayn to finish Owens off with a chair but Zayn chose to crack Reigns with the weapon instead.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Daily Update, Dave Meltzer noted that WWE is planning to have Sami Zayn face Roman Reigns in the main event of the Elimination Chamber event in Montreal:
“Roman Reigns vs. Sami Zayn is now as confirmed as it can be for the 2/18 Elimination Chamber show main event in Montreal. I’m not sure what the men’s chamber match would be for since you’ve got Cody Rhodes already for the main event at WrestleMania.”
“Of course this is WWE and everything is subject to change, but major changes to planned PPV shows have been less with Paul Levesque in charge.”
Sami Zayn will no doubt have hometown support in Montreal and might hope to have the support of Kevin Owens as well. He’ll need everything he can muster to take on the might of The Tribal Chief and The Bloodline – who might be one more man down after Jey Uso walked away from the group in the aftermath of Zayn’s chair shot and subsequent beating.
