Why WWE Star Doesn’t Think John Cena Match Is Likely

John Cena at WWE Elimination Chamber

A rising WWE star believes that he will likely not get to face John Cena before the WWE Champion retires.

John Cena became a record-breaking 17-time WWE World Champion at WrestleMania 41 by defeating Cody Rhodes. The match was highly controversial, as Cena required assistance from rapper Travis Scott and resorted to a low blow and a belt shot to secure the victory.

Just two days before Cena’s championship win, “The Ruler” Oba Femi successfully retained his NXT Championship in a triple threat match against Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans at Stand & Deliver.

The two wrestlers are at different stages in their careers. Cena is set to retire at the end of the year, while Femi, who has been wrestling on television for less than three years, possesses the potential to become a multi-time WrestleMania main eventer.

Oba Femi, who turned 27 years old on April 22—just one day before Cena’s 48th birthday—expressed in a recent interview with the No Contest Wrestling Podcast that he would love the opportunity to face Cena, although he believes that match is unlikely to happen.

“I wish. I wish. But, he’s in the twilight of his career. He’s winding down, I’m just getting started. I don’t know if our paths are going to cross in that fashion, I hope it does, but I don’t think so.”

“I’m young, I’m spry—John is not the same; respect him. He’s a champion right now, but I’m still Oba Femi, I’m still the ruler—don’t forget that.”

Winning WWE Title Won’t Change John Cena’s Retirement Decision

There might be some WWE fans out there who think that becoming Undisputed WWE Champion may have changed John Cena’s mind about retiring at the end of the year. However, Cena has made it clear he still plans to stop wrestling in December.

“There is no amount of money and not a check, this is a shot across the bow to any casino owner, any territory owner, any promotion owner, you can’t write me a check to bring me back.

In December, I am done because of the promise I made to them. Whether I like them or I don’t, at least I go out keeping my word. December, I’m gone.”

The next time Cena is likely going to wrestle is at the Backlash PLE on May 10th in St. Louis. Since Randy Orton dropped Cena with an RKO on the Raw After WrestleMania and Orton is from St. Louis, it seems likely that the two former rivals will have at least one more WWE Title match.
