Cody Rhodes is going to be in the WWE Royal Rumble with a new report claiming there are more surprises coming as well.

During the first three weeks of Monday Night Raw, WWE has aired videos building up the return to action of Cody Rhodes. Following videos that aired on January 2nd and January 9th, the January 16th Raw video about Cody confirmed that he will be part of the Royal Rumble match.

The last time that Cody wrestled in a WWE ring was on June 5th, 2022 in a Hell in a Cell match at the appropriately named Hell in a Cell event. Cody tore his right pectoral muscle going into the match, but still wrestled and beat Seth “Freakin” Rollins for the third straight WWE Premium Live Event.

Cody had surgery on his pectoral muscle days later with a healing time expected to be around six to nine months. It’s past seven months now and Cody is ready to go.

What’s interesting about the Cody news is that WWE chose to advertise him for the Royal Rumble match even though they could have kept it as a surprise.

The WrestleVotes twitter account commented on the Cody news that a source claims that WWE is likely “more than pleased” with the other surprises they have set up for the Royal Rumble matches.

“Asked a source the reasoning behind Cody’s Rumble return being announced as opposed to a surprise…

Source said it’s twofold, one being that nearly everyone expected it to happen already & two, source states they are “more than pleased” w/ the other surprises that are lined up.”

This could lead to even more speculation that The Rock is in the Royal Rumble, perhaps Steve Austin, last year’s winner Brock Lesnar or numerous others.

The 2023 edition of the WWE Royal Rumble takes place on January 28th in San Antonio. Here’s the lineup so far.

* 30-Man Royal Rumble Match

* 30-Woman Royal Rumble Match

* Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Kevin Owens

* Raw Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Alexa Bliss

* Pitch Black Match: Bray Wyatt vs. LA Knight

You can watch the Royal Rumble on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 8 ET/5 PT, streaming live exclusively on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network everywhere else!
