WWE Champion Admits They Won’t Headline WrestleMania 40

Gunther has held the WWE Intercontinental Championship longer than any other wrestler in history but even he knows it’s not enough to headline WrestleMania.

Gunther shattered The Honky Tonk Man’s record as the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion of all time and has now held the title for over 520 days. However, despite dominating all that come before him, The Ring General still has a way to go to get to the top of the company.

As far as potentially main eventing WrestleMania 40, Gunther told Steve Fall for WrestlingNews.co “That’s not gonna happen” as he recognises there is a hierarchy to the titles in WWE. Gunther does add, however, that he believes he has already outgrown the Intercontinental Title and is ready to make the next step up the ladder:

I think there’s a ranking system and everything for a reason. I think it’s quite obvious that I outgrew the Intercontinental Championship already, I am ready to make that next step.

Gunther Dismisses WWE Hall Of Famer

Gunther’s next challenger is The Miz and the two will face off for the gold at Survivor Series. The Austrian star has made no secret of his distaste for his challenger and sees him merely as an entertainer. Gunther has also written off one WWE Hall of Famer as a “showman” as he dismissed their wrestling credentials.
