WWE Champion Admits Title Could Be Dropped
The future of one WWE championship remains uncertain.
On August 1, it was reported that WWE Speed had been quietly dropped by the company.
WWE Speed was first announced in February 2024 in partnership with social media platform X to great fanfare. Two months later, the show debuted with a tournament to decide the first-ever Speed Champion.
A women’s tournament subsequently followed, and the inaugural champion was crowned in October.
However, no new episodes have been uploaded to the platform since July 9, putting its future well and truly in doubt. At present, the men’s Speed Championship is held by El Grande Americano, and the women’s title is held by Sol Ruca.
Sol Ruca Has No Answers On The Future Of WWE Speed
In a new interview with Ten Count Media, Sol Ruca was asked about the speculation around Speed and her championship. Ruca, who also holds the Women’s North American Championship, admitted she has no idea what’s going to happen next.
“I’m definitely still a double champion. I am, you know, the Speed Champion and the North American Champion. I know there’s a little confusion about what’s going on. I honestly don’t really have an answer either. But until they tell me I’m no longer a double champion, I am still a double champion.”
The star later suggested that the Speed Championships could be moved to NXT if the deal with X is over.
“Maybe we’ll start doing stuff on NXT with it,” she suggested. “I think there was a little bit of leeway, and now I think we’re just trying to figure out what we want to do with it. But, I mean, as of now, I’m still technically a double champion. So I’m not complaining.”
However, if the Speed Championships do move to NXT, the women’s champion might not be there. According to a recent report, main roster figures are pushing for Sol Ruca to be called up sooner rather than later. It was noted that backstage figures “think the world of her potential.”
