WWE Blocking Major AJ Styles Match

AJ Styles has an unfortunate update.

After appearing at Slammiversary, speculation immediately went into overdrive linking AJ Styles with one more match under the TNA banner. While Styles has spent the last near-decade with WWE, it was working for TNA that he truly made his name.

Shortly after winning the TNA World Championship at Bound For Glory, Mike Santana only added to that speculation, stating that Styles is his only remaining dream match. To add even more expectation, there’s Styles’ impending retirement in 2026.

But unfortunately for Styles and Santana, it seems they won’t be getting their wish.

AJ Styles Thinks Match Is Unlikely

During an appearance on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast, Styles responded to the comments from Santana and the growing speculation that he could wrestle in TNA one more time. However, he didn’t have good news.

“I get it, man. I really do. I was hoping that this would happen, I really was but then I realized it probably never could as far as WWE letting me do that. I’ll tell you why. As soon as I open those gates for the main roster talent, now everyone is going to want to do it. I don’t know if it’s going to happen, if I’m being honest. I’d like to, don’t get me wrong. What a moment it was when I was able to go back, but I just don’t see that match — I don’t see any match happening as of right now.”

Despite that, Styles said that he’d love to be the only main roster star to compete in TNA as the relationship between the two companies continues.

“It’s NXT that has the partnership, not the main roster talent. Listen, I wish I could do it. I think I should be the only guy to do it, but that’s being very selfish. We’ll see what happens in the future, I don’t know necessarily. We’ll find out together.”

AJ Styles is currently one-half of the World Tag Team Champions alongside Dragon Lee on WWE Raw.
