WWE Announcer Removed From Role

Corey Graves Kevin Patrick Michael Cole WWE SmackDown

WWE SmackDown is in for a major change as a new report reveals that one of the announce team is now gone from the show.

In recent weeks, WWE had reverted to two-man announce teams for both Raw and SmackDown with Michael Cole and Wade Barrett heading up Raw while Kevin Patrick and Corey Graves called the action on SmackDown.

A recent report noted that Kevin Patrick faced a fight to keep his role on SmackDown and now it seems he has lost that fight.

Kevin Patrick Gone From WWE SmackDown

It was first reported by Aaron Varble that Kevin Patrick is out of the announce team on SmackDown but no replacement has yet been named.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed the news and noted that it had not come as a surprise to him:

Kevin Patrick is gone unless something changes. I don’t know the details, I don’t know who’s replacing him. I’m not surprised. They just did an announcer change on the 1st of the year, so it was a couple of weeks ago. Like I said, I’m not surprised, Corey Graves has been totally carrying the SmackDown announcing. I don’t know who they will get to replace him, could be Vic Joseph.

[Patrick] is a soccer guy, he replaced Jimmy Smith. Nick Khan likes to hire sports people but the problem with sports people is that announcing sports and announcing wrestling are very different. Jimmy Smith did a good job because he announced real fights, he was better than most of the ones they had. He was better at explaining the psychology of the matches and the explanation of moves.

Vic Joseph is the current announcer on NXT and has previously worked on the main roster, leading the Raw broadcast team for four months between 2019 and 2020 when he was joined by WWE Hall of Famer Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, and at different times Dio Maddin (better known as Mace) and Samoa Joe.
