Wrestling Legend Feels Like A “Doting Uncle” Watching Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes had a “tough road” to the top of WWE.
At SummerSlam, Cody Rhodes defeated John Cena to become a WWE World Champion for the second time. The event marked the end of Cena’s controversial heel turn and allowed him to branch off and have the kind of one-off matches fans had been hoping to see when he announced his retirement.
Rhodes later teamed with Cena on SmackDown before moving into a new rivalry with Drew McIntyre. However, his run since SummerSlam has been somewhat stop/start after he took time out to work on the new Street Fighter movie.
Arn Anderson Is Proud Of Cody Rhodes
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Arn Anderson reflected on what it was like to see Rhodes triumph at SummerSlam and watch his continued success at the top of WWE. Anderson famously worked closely with Rhodes in AEW, while he was also close friends with his legendary father.
The WWE Hall of Famer also played a key role in helping mentor Cena during the early part of his career.
“Like a doting uncle. Very, very proud of him,” Anderson responded. “Because he did it the right way. He had a tough road to climb, being Dusty Rhodes’ son. You know, most people don’t realize, he’s always going to be compared to his dad.
That’s not fair, because nothing about him is like his dad was. They were both megastars in different ways, different eras, in different times in the business. I would just say his dad would be very proud.”
Next up for Cody Rhodes is a clash with Drew McIntyre at Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1. Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship will be on the line at the Peacock special in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Meanwhile, Anderson is set to appear at a special MLW live event in Charleston, South Carolina, on November 20. His son, Brock, has been working with MLW since August 2024.
