Brock Lesnar is likely going to be featured in a big match at this year’s WrestleMania, but those plans are considered a secret at this point.

It’s the time of the year when WWE is likely setting up a lot of their biggest matches for WrestleMania 39, which takes place on April 1st and 2nd at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. With the Royal Rumble set to take place tomorrow, there could be some huge stories taking place in the Rumble matches with the idea that they will set up WrestleMania matches.

When it comes to Brock Lesnar, what his role is at WrestleMania remains a secret in WWE according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (available via subscription). Dave Meltzer wrote about that in this week’s issue.

“When the Lesnar vs. Gunther rumors started, we were told that was definitely not the plan at that time, but weren’t told what the plan was, past it was something that almost nobody knew and was a well-guarded secret.”

It was also noted that while Lesnar facing “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was likely pitched to Austin, those plans have fallen through leading Meltzer to mention Lesnar’s feud with Bobby Lashley

“When the Austin-Reigns rumors started, we were told that was actually Austin-Lesnar that was the match they were looking for, but that it had already fallen through.

Obviously they need everything finalized by the weekend because the WrestleMania angles start at the Royal Rumble. Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley is the apparent direction. With the angle already shot, that match would either be in Montreal at Elimination Chamber, or Mania.”

Lesnar returned to WWE TV this past Monday on the Raw 30th-anniversary special on January 23rd when he attacked Bobby Lashley during his US Title match against champion Austin Theory. Lesnar gave Lashley an F5. Lesnar also gave Theory an F5 that slammed him on top of Lashley for the pinfall win, which meant that Lesnar screwed Lashley out of the US Title.

The last time Lesnar wrestled was at Crown Jewel last November when he beat Bobby Lashley by countering the Hurt Lock submission. Lashley beat up Lesnar after the match. Their series of matches are now 1-1 with the likelihood that there’s another match. Whether that’s at Elimination Chamber in Montreal or WrestleMania 39 in LA is unknown.

While Lesnar is not officially advertised for this year’s Royal Rumble, it is expected that he will be a part of it. Lesnar won last year’s Royal Rumble event even though he wasn’t officially advertised for it. Lesnar entered and won after Roman Reigns & Paul Heyman screwed him out of the WWE Title earlier in the night.

The first WrestleMania that Brock Lesnar competed at was WrestleMania 19 in 2003 when he beat Kurt Angle in the main event to win the WWE Title for the second time. If Lesnar is in a match at this year’s WrestleMania then it will be 20 years later.
