Major Celebrity Could Miss WrestleMania 40 Despite WWE Interest
A huge Hollywood movie star could be involved in WrestleMania 40 if his schedule allows it.
With WrestleMania 40 set to take place in Philadelphia on April 6th and April 7th at Lincoln Financial Field, it’s likely that WWE will want to feature some celebrities on the show and pick some of them who have ties to Philadelphia.
When it comes to celebrities in Philadelphia, there is nobody greater than Sylvester Stallone, who created the iconic “Rocky” movie series based on his portrayal of a Philadelphia boxer named Rocky Balboa.
The films are so legendary that the city of Philadelphia built a Rocky statue while fans of the film are known for running up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art just like Balboa did as Rocky in the first movie.
It was reported by Wrestlevotes that “there is interest in collaborating with Sylvester Stallone for WrestleMania in some form.”
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted there may be a scheduling conflict that could prevent Stallone from making a WM40 appearance.
“Wrestlevotes reported that WWE was talking to Sylvester Stallone about appearing at WrestleMania this year, since the character of Rocky Balboa was based in Philadelphia. Those at WWE have confirmed the talk but said that as of earlier in the week Stallone had said there was a schedule conflict so the deal hasn’t been done unless you can or he wants to remove the conflict.”
Has Sylvester Stallone Appeared At WWE WrestleMania In The Past?
If Sylvester Stallone appeared at WrestleMania 40 it would be his first time being on camera at WWE’s biggest show of the year.
However, Stallone was on hand in 2005 when Hulk Hogan was inducted into the Hall of Fame in Los Angeles. Stallone was chosen for the honor because of his legendary “exhibition fight” with Hogan as Thunderlips in Rocky 3, which was a boxer vs. wrestler style match that launched Hogan into superstardom.
