Update On Women’s Tag Team Title Match At WrestleMania 39
The challengers for the Women’s Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 39 are known although who walks into the match as champions could change soon.
Damage CTRL’s team of IYO Sky & Dakota Kai (with their group leader Bayley) have been the Women’s Tag Team Champions since Crown Jewel last November. It’s their second championship, which lasted for over 100 days at this point.
As has been reported previously, the Smackdown team of Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler are expected to challenge for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 39. Rousey and Baszler picked up a tag team victory over Natalya & Shotzi last week on Smackdown.
In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was reported that Rousey & Baszler were originally going to be against Iyo Sky & Dakota Kai, who are the current Women’s Tag Team Champions.
However, Becky Lynch & Lita will face Sky & Kai this coming Monday on Raw. Since WrestleMania is about marquee matches, the team of Lita & Lynch going against Baszler & Rousey is a bigger match, which means a title change is certainly possible.
There are also plans for Trish Stratus to return to WWE in some role. She was backstage at Raw this past Monday, but WWE changed whatever the plan was and she wasn’t used although Stratus is still expected to be involved in WrestleMania 39. Perhaps it will be a singles match with Bayley, which was teased last August when Stratus was on Raw in Toronto.
The other women’s matches scheduled for WrestleMania 39 will see Charlotte Flair defend the Smackdown Women’s Title against Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair defend the Raw Women’s Championship against Asuka, who earned the title shot after her win in the Elimination Chamber match last week.
