William Regal Demanded WWE Star Punch Him In The Face

William Regal

William Regal repeatedly demanded that one WWE Superstar punch him in the face on television.

Back in 2019, Dakota Kai was scheduled to take part in the first-ever women’s WarGames match at NXT TakeOver: WarGames. However, when she was supposed to enter the match, she turned and attacked her teammate Tegan Nox before being dragged away and shoving Regal in the process.

At the time the British legend was serving as NXT General Manager.

Speaking on a recent Twitch stream, Kai recalled her heel turn and how the angle was set up, revealing that Regal actually wanted her to punch him in the face.

“They asked me to do [push Regal], and I’m like, ‘It’s literally William Regal, legend, I don’t want to get in trouble and do something too far. Too much.’ He pulls me aside backstage and is like, ‘I want you to hit me in the face. I want you to punch me in the face. It needs to look like…I need you to punch me.’

Coach Sara Amato, legend, overheard this conversation and him telling me this and me standing there, scared shitless, ‘Yup, I’m going to punch you in the face.’ He left, she pulled me aside and was like, ‘Don’t punch him in the face.’

After every match, he’s always backstage giving us critiques. He wants legitimacy in this, which is great, we need that. She immediately was like, ‘don’t punch him in the face. Don’t do that.’ I was like, ‘No, never, I was never going to punch him in the face.’ I actually wasn’t.

We did the shove that we did, which still worked. It worked for what we wanted. It was like a forearm shove, but I put some sauce behind the shove. He didn’t need to have me do that, but that was cool. The look he gave me after I did that was very, ‘Oh, I messed up,’

Is William Regal Signed To WWE?

William Regal was released by WWE in January 2022 before joining AEW just two months later. However, his stint with AEW was over by the end of the year, with Regal asking to be released from his contract so he could return to WWE and work with his son.

The former Intercontinental Champion officially began working with WWE again in January 2023.

William Regal recently commented on the 10th anniversary of his in-ring retirement, describing the match with Claudio Castagnoli as one of his favourites.
