Update On William Regal’s New WWE Role Involving TV Tapings
William Regal is back on the road for WWE following his return to the company to start the new year.
In 2022, William Regal signed with AEW after he was released by WWE earlier in the year. Regal would go on to form the Blackpool Combat Club with former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, current ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli, Bryan Danielson and Wheeler Yuta.
After Regal helped MJF beat Moxley to win the AEW World Title in November, it appeared as though he would become a mentor/manager for MJF. Instead, MJF turned on Regal after becoming the AEW World Title to show that MJF really is the devil while Regal left AEW in an ambulance to sell the attack.
Following that attack by MJF on Dynamite, the news came out that William Regal was looking to make his way back to WWE and had asked Tony Khan not to exercise an option to extend his AEW contract. It was believed that Regal wanted to return to WWE to work with his son Charlie Dempsey, who is a relative newcomer on the NXT brand. Regal is also close friends with Triple H, who rose in power in the last six months after Vince McMahon’s July 2022 retirement, which is apparently done for now.
William Regal’s WWE return has seen him appear backstage at recent TV events including last week’s Smackdown.
In an update on Regal’s role in WWE, PWInsider reports that his new position requires him to be at all Raw and Smackdown tapings going forward. Regal has been at some recent Raw and Smackdown TV tapings. He was not at WWE NXT this past Tuesday in Orlando.
It was also revealed earlier this week that Regal’s new job title in WWE is Vice President, Global Talent Development.
Lastly, while Regal is back in WWE, he is not expected to have an on-camera role any time soon because of whatever agreement he came to with AEW that would allow for his WWE return.
