Why William Regal Called Off WWE Tour To Find New Talent

William Regal on the mic on NXT

William Regal once cancelled a European tour before it even started.

As well as being a popular star onscreen, William Regal has been a key backstage figure in WWE for over a decade. The former Intercontinental Champion is known for helping guide the careers of up-and-coming stars as well as scouting talent for the company.

One of the stars who has benefitted from Regal’s presence in WWE is Ludwig Kaiser. During an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Kaiser was Regal dropped a scouting tour in Germany after seeing his name on a list of prospects.

“The story that I’ve heard is that WWE was looking for a German wrestler, and they scheduled a tour through Germany to look at talent, go through all the different wrestling schools and stuff. And apparently Mr. William Regal, who I’m always going to be grateful for, saw my name on the list, he knew my dad, and they saw my picture. They saw everything, he pointed out me and said cancel the tour, we’ll take him.”

Kaiser thought his time in WWE would be cut short after suffering an injury weeks before his tryout. However, he was able to join the company without going through that process.

“I was one of the guys. I never had to do a try-out, because I was supposed to do one, but two weeks, three weeks before I blew my knee out. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to say that. I’m not sure if I ever said that. But yeah, I got injured and I had to cancel the try-out.

“So obviously I’m in the match already, I thought, ‘Oh my God, this is over.’ Because when I first started this, I never thought I would go to WWE. It was not my big goal to be like okay, I gotta go to WWE or otherwise this is all for nothing. No, I wanted to do my dad proud. I wanted to be a professional wrestler. I wanted to see the world. I wanted to do all of that.”

WWE Hall Of Famer Claims William Regal More Valuable Out Of The Ring

Eric Bischoff believes William Regal is more valuable outside the ring. While the former WCW President says Regal is a good wrestler, he thinks he is even better when he is “teaching the art” of pro wrestling.
