Will Ospreay Credits “Guiding Light” ECW Legend For In-Ring Change

Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay is always looking to evolve.

By the time it was announced he’d officially signed with AEW at Full Gear 2023, Will Ospreay was regarded as one of the best wrestlers on the planet.

Since becoming All Elite that reputation has only been enhanced thanks to a series of impressive outings against MJF, Kenny Omega, and Ricochet among others. The former NJPW star is already a two-time International Champion and he’s been widely tipped to win the World Title before 2025 comes to a close.

However, that doesn’t mean he’s content to rest on his laurels.

Will Ospreay Has Been Making Changes

During an interview with Jon Alba for Sports Illustrated, Ospreay was asked about how his approach to TV has changed while he’s been with AEW.

“A little bit, yeah. Because you can’t do those epic clashes on TV that much. It’s very rare that you can actually follow through with those epic New Japan-style main events. So you have to pick your spots wisely and now, I feel like I’m really finding my groove at the TV matches. And obviously, when the pay-per-view comes around, I just go balls out, and I hope that people respond well to the matches that I’m trying to put on.”

Ospreay went on to credit his recent work with Jerry Lynn for this change in approach. The British star said Lynn has been a “guiding light,” when it comes to making everything in the ring matter.

Former ECW World Champion Lynn has been working with AEW as a producer and coach since 2019.

“I’ll be honest. I’ve been working a lot with Jerry Lynn, and he’s been a real guiding light on how to make stuff a little bit more important for me in those matches,” Ospreay said. “So I do put a lot of love and admiration towards Jerry as he’s been such a great help in my matches.”

At Dynasty, Ospreay saw off Kevin Knight in his opening match in the Owen Hart Cup. He will now face the winner of Brody King vs. Konosuke Takeshita in the semi-finals. The final is set to take place at Double or Nothing, with the winner challenging the AEW World Champion at All in Texas in July.
