Will Ospreay Awarded Six Stars For G1 Climax Match

Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay continues to make history.

With the G1 Climax 33 Tournament now completed, Dave Meltzer has reviewed the event and given his star ratings in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The semi-final match between Ospreay and eventual winner Tetsuya Naito was awarded six stars by Metlzer, bringing the IWGP United States Champion’s tally of five stars or above matches to 27.

Following the two critically acclaimed bouts with Omega earlier in the year, this is Ospreay’s 3rd five-star plus match in 2023 alone. The Ariel Assassin will hope to continue putting on match-of-the-year contenders at the end of August as he will face Chris Jericho for the first time ever at All In on August 27th.

This was not the only match to achieve a high rating over the tournament, as the final match that saw Naito pin Kazuckika Okada was rated five and a quarter stars.

Will Ospreay To Return To London For Multiple Dates

Likely to receive a heroes welcome, Ospreay has been announced for 3 appearances in the nation’s capital, each for different promotions. Along with the AEW appearance at Wembley Stadium, the NJPW star will be competing at Rev Pro’s anniversary show the night before, taking on former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Shingo Takagi at the event.

Continuing to jump between the UK and overseas, Ospreay will once again compete in London on October 14th, this time for New Japan Pro Wrestling. The man with the most five-star or more matches in history has been the latest announcement for the Royal Quest show later in the year.
