Will Ospreay Appalled By WWE’s Use Of Current Champion
AEW star Will Ospreay has had his say on one current WWE champion and how he finds the company’s use of them “appalling.”
Before Will Ospreay was part of the AEW roster or a top star in New Japan Pro Wrestling, the English star went viral for a match against current WWE star Ricochet that showcased both men at their high-flying best. Or worst, depending on your point of view.
Ospreay is now one of AEW’s top stars and Ricochet is part of WWE’s Raw roster and is the current WWE Speed Champion. The WWE Speed concept sees stars take part in 3-minute matches with a match for the title having a 5-minute time limit with the bouts airing exclusively on X/Twitter. And Will Ospreay thinks that’s a complete waste of his talent.
Will Ospreay Sad About Ricochet’s WWE Treatment
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Will Ospreay admitted he gets sad about how Ricochet is used in WWE and hopes people don’t forget what the star he puts on the same level as Rey Mysterio is really capable of:
I keep up with him all the time and sometimes I get a little bit sad about it. I hope he’s not sad and I hope he’s real happy. I keep up with him as much as I can, but I feel like people are forgetting who Ricochet was once upon a time All of these high-flyers that you see, and myself included, we all took inspiration from Pac and Ricochet.
The fact that they only value his time for under five minutes is appalling to me. I just want people to remember who he is. If you go and look at 2012-2013 Dragon Gate Ricochet, he was untouchable at the time.
When it came to this generation of high-flyers, he was the greatest. He’s the greatest high-flyer ever. I know it sounds weird, but I do include put him on the same level as Rey Mysterio.
Will Ospreay will challenge for his first title in AEW at Double Or Nothing when he faces Roderick Strong for the AEW International Championship.
