Why Tiffany Stratton Dropped Key Character Trait Revealed
Tiffany Stratton has explained why she underwent a character change that was different from when she made her debut on the WWE NXT brand.
When it comes to rising stars in all of WWE, Tiffany Stratton is near the top of the list. After all, the 24-year-old is a tremendous athlete who has only been wrestling for less than two years and is already a former NXT Women’s Champion.
On the September 12th edition of NXT, Stratton had the biggest match of her career so far when she defended the NXT Women’s Title against “The Man” Tiffany Stratton. Lynch won that match to win the title, but Stratton put on an impressive performance while showing she didn’t need to be carried by the veteran superstar. Stratton showed she has all the tools to be a major WWE star just like Lynch is.
When Stratton first debuted on the NXT brand in early 2022, she was featured in vignettes talking about how “daddy” bought her gifts. It was a rich-girl gimmick meant to annoy people by bragging about how rich she was. However, she stopped mentioning “daddy” in promos and the gimmick was essentially dropped.
In an interview with Steve Fall of WrestlingNewsco, Stratton explained why the gimmick changed.
“In the beginning, I was kind of like Daddy’s little rich girl. I kind of just was like, I want to get on TV. And, you know, this was kind of like, new and different, I guess. So I pitched it. It stuck. And it works for a little bit until they’re like, ‘we don’t have a daddy for you. So you’re not daddy’s little rich girl.'”
Clearly, Stratton has done very well for herself after ditching the “rich girl” gimmick.
Tiffany Stratton set for huge rematch at NXT No Mercy
During last week’s NXT TV show, Becky Lynch & Lyra Valkyria teamed up to beat Tiffany Stratton & Kiana James in the main event. However, after the match, Stratton attacked Lynch with a steel chair and stood over her with the NXT Women’s Title.
Earlier in the night, Lynch and Stratton agreed to a rematch at NXT No Mercy, which is this Saturday, September 30th. After the Stratton attack, Lynch changed the match to an Extreme Rules Match for the NXT Women’s Championship. Lynch has experience in those kinds of matches while it will be a big test for Stratton to prove herself yet again.
Here’s the lineup for NXT No Mercy so far.
* NXT Championship: Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Ilja Dragunov
* NXT Women’s Championship Extreme Rules Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Tiffany Stratton
* Bron Breakker vs. Baron Corbin
* NXT Heritage Cup Championship: Noam Dar vs. Butch or Joe Coffey
Dominik Mysterio was going to defend the NXT North American Title against Mustafa Ali, but with WWE releasing Ali, it’s unknown what will happen with that match.
You can watch NXT No Mercy on Saturday, September 30, streaming live at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network everywhere else.
