Why A Major AEW Star Was Written Off TV

HOOK Katsuyori Shibata Samoa Joe AEW

An AEW star is set for a spell on the sidelines in the company but unlike other absences, the reason for this one has apparently been revealed.

HOOK, Samoa Joe, and Katsuyori Shibata have found common ground in their dislike for Chris Jericho and his Learning Tree. The eclectic trio teamed up at Forbidden Door to face Jericho, Big Bill, and NJPW World Television Champion Jeff Cobb. Jericho’s group might have lost the battle on that night but they’re still in with a chance of winning the war.

Chris Jericho resorted to his wizard tactics to shoot a fireball in HOOK’s face recently and the FTW Champion was in action on the 10th of July edition of AEW Dynamite when he faced off with Samoa Joe in a Stampede Street Fight. Jericho had help from Big Bill and Bryan Keith as he won the bout via referee stoppage after Bill chokeslammed Joe onto a forklift truck before Jericho drove the truck through a wall. Joe was then loaded onto a stretcher and into an ambulance as Jericho waved him off.

If that ending sounds extreme then it’s apparently for a very good reason.

Samoa Joe Set For Time Away From AEW

PWInsider has reported that the reason for Samoa Joe’s brutal send-off is that he is set to begin filming for the second season of the Peacock series Twisted Metal which begins shooting in Toronto later in July. Joe will reprise his role of Sweet Tooth in the series that is scheduled to film until October but breaks could leave opportunities for Joe to return to AEW before then.

The report noted that WWE stars Omos, Apollo Crews, and Cedric Alexander auditioned for the new role of Axel in the show but none of them have been cast.

While Samoa Joe will be away stewing over his revenge, Chris Jericho has been scheduled for a huge match but not in an AEW ring.
